Iván gordillo

I was ten years old when my grandmother took me to see a play in Mexico. It was my first experience of theatre, and I was completely blown away.

A few years later, my mother insisted that I take karate lessons. I got badly beaten in my first fight, so my grandmother and I made a secret agreement: I would take acting classes instead, and we wouldn’t tell my mother.

But later, life took me in a different direction. I ended up studying business, earned my degree at twenty, and worked in administration for eight years.

​

One day, I imagined myself as an old man sitting in a rocking chair, and I asked myself: “What will put a smile on my face at the end of my life?”

​

I knew the answer.

​

So I left everything behind and moved to New York, where I trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.  

 

That was twenty-seven years ago. The journey has been bumpy, but the smile is guaranteed.
